What is psychology? What does it seek to understand, and how does it study human thoughts, emotions, and behaviour?
This course provides an accessible introduction to psychology as a scientific discipline. Participants will discover its history, major schools of thought, areas of application, and the methods psychologists use to better understand human behaviour and mental processes.
Throughout the course, we will explore the origins and development of psychology, some of the most influential psychological experiments, the different fields in which psychologists work, and a first introduction to psychopathology and the most common psychological disorders.
The aim of the course is to provide a solid foundation in modern psychology, understand how the discipline has evolved, and distinguish scientific knowledge from common misconceptions.
Illustrated with numerous real-life examples and classic psychological studies, this course is intended for anyone curious to discover the foundations of psychology.
