Skills for a Changing Europe

Held in a hybrid format, the Conference welcomed participants both onsite and online through EPALE, YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn, enabling educators, policymakers, researchers and practitioners from across Europe to join the conversation.

The first day focused on the role of skills in building inclusive and resilient societies. Participants explored the recognition and validation of skills, the impact of artificial intelligence on the labour market, and how adult learning can support effective reskilling and upskilling opportunities for all. Interactive workshops addressed topics such as basic skills, inclusion, community learning and support for adult educators.

Learning, Participation and Empowerment

The second day looked at the broader societal value of skills, beyond employment and economic participation. Discussions examined the relationship between AI, autonomy and civic life, the role of community learning in empowerment and social inclusion, and the importance of critical thinking and media literacy for democratic participation.

The brilliant National Side Events really added to the Conference, allowing country-specific communities to explore themes within their local contexts while keeping up with the broader European conversation - it was an amazing way to spread the wealth of the Conference!

Looking Ahead

The 2026 EPALE Community Conference highlighted the essential role of adult learning in helping individuals and communities respond to technological, social and economic change. Bringing together diverse voices from across Europe, it provided a space for dialogue, collaboration and shared learning, while reinforcing a common commitment to a more inclusive, skilled and empowered Europe.

All plenary sessions are available online, allowing the EPALE community to continue exploring and sharing the ideas discussed during the Conference.
