Goals

The language of Estonia has a history of ancient songs and rhymes, preserved verbally through the ages from generation to generation.

Spoken by barely 1 million people in Estonia, they have one of the largest collections of folk songs in the world, with written recordings of around 133,000 folk songs. The most famous local singers in history have been able to recall up to 20,000 rhymes, which has earned the title "Seto Mother of Songs".

The Tallinn Song Festival Grounds in the capital city hosts a musical extravaganza every five years, celebrating their regivärss, that is, rhythmic verses and folk songs.

Did you know? Estonian is closely related to Finnish, but beware, there are a lot of false friends that sound the same but mean something different!
