The Designing for Cisco Internetwork Solutions (DESGN) ILT course will enable learners to gather customer's internetworking requirements, identify solutions, and design the network infrastructure and elements to ensure the basic functionality of the proposed solutions. The purpose of this course is to provide the learners with the knowledge and skills to achieve associate level competency in network design. The Designing for Cisco Internetwork Solutions (DESGN) course is the first design course in a design curriculum supporting the design certification track. The course focuses on the technology and methods available today.

Starting from 01/10/13 the CCENT certification will become a prerequisite prior to achieving the CCDA certification. Basic knowledge of routing and switching is becoming increasingly essential to meet the industry job role requirements of a CCDA.

Inhalt

Design Principes:

This module describes design methodology including the steps of internetworking design, as well as the importance of organizational network policies and procedures. It includes a brief discussion of top down design concepts

Network Structure Concepts:

This module explains hierarchical network concepts with a three- layer structure. The module continues with the detailed explanation of the modular approach to the network design, which is represented by a Cisco Enterprise Composite Model. The modularization allows the designer to assess a certain network solution and intelligent network service against any aspect that might influence the network operation.

Basic Campus Switching Design Considerations:

This module describes the switched LAN environments as a major component of the campus design. The general campus design considerations are explained first including a brief discussion on the selection of the media (wiring).

Basic WAN Design Considerations:

This module explains the WAN concepts and considerations and builds awareness of the WAN as transport medium, positions the module within the Enterprise Composite Model and addresses design issues.

IP Addressing Design Concepts:

This module discusses the network addressing concepts and the implications of addressing on the network design and routing protocol selection. Address assignment methods are briefly reviewed as well.

Routing Protocols Design Considerations:

This module describes the routing protocol options for Enterprise networks and explains the requirements and selection criteria based on the hierarchical layer of the network (access, distribution, core).

Introduction to Security Design Concepts:

This module discusses the modularity principles in designing network security services. The module addresses the security threats for each individual network module and lists the solutions within a module and across modules.

Introduction to Voice Design Concepts:

This module presents the modularity principles of an important network solution? voice transport. The existing technologies will be reviewed (on a high level only) along with the parameters that influence the network design for voice transport (including capacity planning, QoS etc.).

Introduction to Network Management Design Concepts:

This module first briefly reviews the protocols used in the Network Management solutions. The discussion that follows explains all five functional areas of the network management. The module concludes with the explanation of the Service Levels that are managed in modern networks and represent the most comprehensive management solution.

Course Summary and Overview:

This last module in the course provides useful pointers to the technical and other documents and to relevant courses that complement the knowledge gained during the Designing for Cisco Internetwork Solutions (DESGN) course. The final Comprehensive Case-Study that concludes the course will help the students assess their readiness for their future design projects. The case study will also allow the instructor to review the concepts and to provide a practical example of designing a network.
