This course is designed to develop learners’ English language proficiency within the context of banking and finance. It integrates functional communication skills with the specific terminology, grammar, and discourse structures commonly used in financial institutions. Through a range of practical activities, case studies, and simulations, learners will enhance their ability to discuss financial products and services, interpret financial documents, and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues in professional banking environments. The course also introduces learners to key concepts in Islamic and conventional banking, corporate finance, and financial regulations, enabling them to operate confidently in both local and international financial settings.

• Essential financial and banking terminology
  • Demonstrate mastery of essential financial and banking terminology used in personal, retail, corporate, and investment banking contexts. Explain and compare a range of financial products and services, including bank accounts, credit and debit cards, loans, overdrafts, mortgages, and online banking systems.
• Key economic and financial concepts
  • Discuss and interpret key economic and financial concepts such as cash flow, balance sheets, income statements, and the business cycle with clarity and accuracy. Communicate effectively in professional financial environments, employing appropriate structures for giving advice, making recommendations, expressing possibility, and handling client interactions.
• The internal structure and functions of financial institutions 
  • Apply advanced grammatical forms relevant to the banking sector, including modal verbs for obligation, permission, and speculation; conditional forms; passive constructions; and complex verb–noun partnerships. Describe , outlining job responsibilities, departmental roles, and the hierarchy within banks. Analyze and present financial data and trends, using suitable language to express cause and effect, compare figures, and describe quantitative change.
• Principles and regulations of Islamic banking
  • Identify and discuss the principles and regulations of Islamic banking, and distinguish between Islamic and conventional banking practices. Interpret and explain banking regulations and risk management procedures, demonstrating an understanding of compliance and financial governance. Prepare and deliver professional presentations and handle client communications effectively through written, verbal, and telephone interactions.
