General information

Basic education courses are aimed at people who speak the language of instruction but who:

  • first are beginning to read and write in Luxembourgish, German, French or Portuguese
  • second have learned to read and write in Luxembourgish, German, French or Portuguese and want to improve their basic skills: reading, writing, arithmetic and navigating in an increasingly digital world.

These basic skills shall constitute a solid foundation for more autonomous, more advanced learning in the future.

Structure

During an interview, the teacher assesses and identifies the learner's difficulties: in reading, writing, arithmetic, using a mobile phone or computer. After analysing the needs, learning objectives are set together.

The courses are free and offered in small groups during daytime or in the evening.
The training rhythm can vary between two and six hours of classes per week, adapting to the learner's needs. No books are required to take the courses.

There are new courses starting regularly.

The training content is tailored to the learner's personalised project:

  • first oral communication: interviews, communicating over the telephone, presentations, etc.
  • second work using genuine documents relating to private and professional life: enrolment forms, identity documents, public transport timetables, bank documents, safety instructions, etc.
  • third numeracy skills and mathematical knowledge: basic operations, measurement, orientation in time and space
  • and finally basic digital skills: knowing and using digital tools, online training

Courses are offered in Belval, Echternach, Ettelbrück, Clausen, Mersch, Warken and Wiltz.
