CCP - Vocational Capacity Certificate (Certificat de capacité professionnelle)

Last update : 03.12.2025

Presentation of the CCP

Adults who wish to learn a new trade, work in a new profession or switch career paths can obtain a CCP through adult apprenticeship or by the validation of non-formal and informal learning (VAE).

The CCP is basic vocational training. The training leading to the CCP combines work experience in the company and theoretical courses and enables learners to acquire practical skills suited to the job market.

Subsequently, it is possible to continue one's studies at a higher level, such as the Vocational Aptitude Diploma (DAP), in order to qualify for more specialised roles.

Who is the CCP for?

The Vocational Capacity Certificate is intended for both:

  • people already active in working life,
  • and those wishing to join or return to the labour market.
The CCP is suitable for people who wish to set out on a new career path or have their existing skills validated.

Conditions for access to the CCP through adult apprenticeship

To enrol in a CCP adult apprenticeship programme, you must:

  • be at least 18,
  • not have been in initial education or under an initial apprenticeship contract for at least 12 months,
  • have been affiliated with the Joint Social Security Centre (Centre commun de la Sécurité sociale) for at least 12 months, whether continuous or not, based on at least 16 hours per week.
Anyone with solid professional experience related to the CCP sought may apply for validation of non-formal and informal learning (VAE) to obtain this CCP without completing the full training. This procedure allows experienced professionals to have their skills officially recognised.

CCP through adult apprenticeship

Adult apprenticeship programmes enable participants to prepare for a CCP as part of an apprenticeship contract. The training is organised as a sandwich course, with classes taught at secondary school and practical experience gained in a company.

The Ministry of Education, Children and Youth (MENJE) is tasked with organising, developing, certifying and promoting vocational training in Luxembourg, in partnership with the professional chambers. For each training course leading to a CCP, the Chamber of Employees is responsible, together with an employers' chamber – Chamber of Commerce (CC), Chamber of Trades (CdM), Chamber of Agriculture (CA) – or the MENJE, depending on the training course in question.

Applicants have to personally submit an application for admission to an adult apprenticeship to the Employment agency's Vocational Guidance Service (ADEM-OP).

All CCP training courses are bilingual (French and German) as far as training in school is concerned. Some CCP training courses are also organised in the French-speaking scheme, with classes taught exclusively in French.

Training leading to the CCP lasts 3 years, except for the following jobs, for which training lasts 2 years:

  • household help
  • sales clerk
  • shoe mender
  • cook
  • restaurant waiter
  • assistant in daily support (replaces the former training as family assistant (ASF))

CCP Assistant in daily support

The course leading to the CCP as Assistant in daily support is a 2-year training scheme, which prepares students to support different groups of the public (children, young people, senior citizens and people with special needs) in their everyday lives. It will replace the training as a family assistant (ASF).

This course can be taken after successful completion of the third year of secondary education (5e class), but also as adult training or on-the-job training. To gain admission to this training course in combination with employment, the candidate will no longer need to have at least 2 years of work experience.

Candidates for the Vocational Capacity Certificate as Assistant in daily support will attend a training organisation for 4 days and secondary school for 1 day per week, amounting to a total of around 600 hours of training. Special emphasis is placed on care and educational support. Students will be trained to work in multidisciplinary teams.

The language skills required are developed over 4 semesters to guarantee good spoken communication in the country's three languages (Luxembourgish, French and German), essential to providing quality care to the people concerned.

CCP through validation of non-formal and informal learning

Anyone who is in employment and can provide proof of solid experience in relation to the diploma sought may acquire a CCP by applying for the validation of non-formal and informal learning.
