École Nationale pour Adultes - ENAD
Based on an innovative educational concept, the École Nationale pour Adultes - ENAD is an integral part of the public school system. It is open to any young person or adult between the ages of 16 and 30 years who, as a result of failure or of bad orientation choices, has dropped out of school or has been unable to find a place as an apprentice.
ENAD teaches these learners in a specific way, giving priority to supervision and personal tutoring. It meets learners’ needs in terms of initiation, catching up, qualification, retraining and personal fulfilment.
ENAD is able to offer classical secondary education and general secondary education from the 5e class upwards. The ENAD also offers sandwich training courses for social education workers leading to the social education worker’s diploma and to the general secondary school leaving diploma as well as preparatory modules providing access to higher studies.
Personal project
Registration with the ENAD is subject to certain conditions. The learner must take part in an individual interview,
- undergo a skills audit: assessment of knowledge, including verbal and written communication, mathematics and logical reasoning, and skills acquired outside the school environment,
- sign a training contract stipulating that the learner is motivated to participate in classes actively and assiduously and will comply with the school’s discipline and timetable, and
- define a personal and professional project.
On the basis of the learner's personal project, and according to his/her needs and learning rhythm, the educational team draws up a training plan.
General education is provided in:
- languages (French, German, English and, as the case may be, Luxembourgish)
- mathematics and logical reasoning
- natural sciences (health, biology, chemistry, physics)
- human sciences (civic education, economics, geography, history)
The target skills and content of courses depend on the learner's project.
Practical teaching takes the form of internships in companies and in workshops at the ENAD.Learners may supplement their personal and professional project by working in a training kitchen, a horticultural greenhouse, or in the various workshops at the ENAD.
The reports and attestations issued by the ENAD fall within the national certification system operated by the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth. The methods for the examinations taken at the end of studies are the same as those for secondary school learners in initial training.
A statement of skills, which serves as a supplement to the report, forms an integral part of the attestations issued by the ENAD.
Any learner who has been absent from more than 10% of the total of the compulsory lessons scheduled for the academic year will not be allowed to continue on the course for the rest of that year.
