Prerequisites

The training is open exclusively to adults residing in Luxembourg for at least 20 years, with no prior language requirements.

Goals

Introductory course in the Luxembourgish language, focused on oral expression and listening comprehension (minimum 24 hours), intended for adults who have been legally residing in Luxembourg for at least 20 years, in accordance with Article 28 of the amended Law of 8 March 2017 on Luxembourg nationality.

Target Competencies 1

Reading Comprehension
  • Understand short and simple texts containing information and instructions.
  • Read clearly and intelligibly, respecting pronunciation (phonetics).

Target Competencies 2

Listening Comprehension
  • Understand different greeting formulas.
  • Understand simple information about oneself, other people, and everyday situations.
  • Understand information related to numbers, time schedules, and places.
  • Understand short instructions and wishes.

Target Competencies 3

Spoken Expression
  • Use greetings and polite expressions.
  • Introduce oneself or another person.
  • Use numbers, dates, and time expressions.
  • Express and compare simple instructions, wishes, and preferences.
  • Describe, in simple sentences, daily routines, professional activities, and leisure activities.
  • Describe the weather.
  • Use common verbs in the present tense.

Teaching methods

The course is based on the concept of the duality of Luxembourgish – a unique linguistic space in which German and French exert a determining influence.The method also incorporates a historical and cultural dimension.

Evaluation

There is no evaluation but a mandatory minimum attendance of 24 hours.

Certificate, diploma

Certificate of participation (MENJE): issued upon completion of a mandatory minimum attendance of 24 hours.
