A Non-Profit Organization Elevating the Role of Patient Experts in Healthcare

The Patient Expert Academy (PatEx Academy) is a non-profit organization committed to formalizing and strengthening the role of patient experts as essential stakeholders in the healthcare system.

We uphold the belief that individuals with lived experience of illness or disability offer critical insights that should inform the development, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare policies and practices. Their perspectives are not only valuable—they are indispensable.

Our Mission

PatEx Academy delivers structured and comprehensive training programmes designed to enhance the medical knowledge, communication capabilities, and psychological resilience of patient experts.

Through this training, we aim to empower patient experts to participate meaningfully and credibly in:

The design and optimization of patient care pathways
The co-construction of public health strategies and policies
The representation and advocacy of patients’ and users’ rights

Our approach is anchored in the principles of inclusive, participatory, and sustainable health democracy, ensuring that lived experience is recognized and valued as a form of expertise.
