Second chance education

Last update : 23.02.2024

Definition

Learning targeted at individuals who, for a variety of reasons, have not been to school, have left it before completion of an education or training cycle, or wish to enter a training programme or occupation for which they are not yet qualified.

Comment:

  • Participants in second chance education are often older than the typical target age group for the given ISCED level programme (but not necessarily adults);
  • second chance education is sometimes also referred to as "bridging programmes" or "re-integration programmes".
