30.07.2019 - 44 new Erasmus Mundus joint master degree programmes: that will offer scholarships to students from across the world, starting in 2020.

Erasmus+ has selected 44 new Erasmus Mundus joint master degree programmes that will offer scholarships to students from across the world, starting in 2020.

These newly-selected programmes will be added to the list, or "catalogue" of Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees later during the summer 2019. So in October around some 120 programmes will be opening up to scholarship applications by students who want to start a master programme in September 2020.
Erasmus+ has invested over €166 million in these 44 programmes, most of which money goes to pay for 3.422 scholarships for students from all over the world to attend these two-year master programmes. The students will start in four annual intakes, the first in 2020.

Joint studies in a range of topics

A wide range of topics are covered: innovative and precision medicine, forestry, human rights, economics, robotics, animation and puppetry, theoretical chemistry, smart energy, gender studies and acoustics. And many more…

What makes these programmes so special is that they are joint programmes. They blend the best teaching from different universities, often combining different faculties and disciplines. Students study in two or more of these different partner universities over the two years. Most of them have a placement in a company or other organisation to gain practical experience. They therefore graduate with the right skills set and international outlook to equip them for a career as practitioners, administrators or researchers in a key and/or niche sector.

Partners worldwide

Together these 44 programmes include 237 higher education institutions which offer modules of the programme, and a further 796 associate partners whose role might be to offer placements, additional specialist teaching, research opportunities, or who promote the programme worldwide. Together these represent 31 Programme Countries from Europe and 65 Partner Countries from other parts of the world.

It is now fifteen years since the first Erasmus Mundus joint masters programmes were selected in 2004. Since then, over 25.000 students from 183 countries have won scholarships to study in 435 programmes.
