Introducing ITIL 4
AXELOS Global Best Practice - 09/10/2018
ITIL is the most widely accepted approach to IT service management in the world. ITIL can help individuals and organizations use IT to realize business change, transformation and growth.
Flexibility and agility have become a priority in recent years as organizations adopt new technologies and ways of working, such as cloud, increased levels of automation and digital transformation. That dynamic is behind the ITIL update: it will ensure that the world’s IT service management professionals can confidently integrate their essential ITIL knowledge with these new business practices.
The development of the updated framework took place in 2018. While building on the established core of best practice in the existing ITIL guidance, the update will offer new and explicit practical content focusing on the optimum integration of ITIL with complementary practices, such as DevOps, Agile and Lean.
As we get closer to the launch of ITIL 4 Foundation in the first quarter of 2019, more is clear about the certification scheme, languages, and the discontinuation of ITIL v3.
The ITIL 4 scheme replaces the ITIL v3 scheme with a more modern approach that simplifies the career path for professionals, providing modern, relevant content. This will likely improve the conversion rates, encouraging professionals to continue their journey beyond the ITIL Foundation level.
In Q1 2019 ITIL 4 Foundation will be available in English only. The first 4 languages that ITIL 4 will be translated into, are German, French, Japanese and Spanish. When the official exams are ready, we will announce more information on their availability.
The discontinuation of ITIL v3
Because in the first quarter of 2019, ITIL 4 Foundation will be the only available level, the earliest that ITIL v3 will be discontinued is June 2020.
During the next weeks, we will provide you with more in-depth information about all relevant ITIL 4 topics. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
