Ziler

  • Offer structured formal education to veterinarians seeking to become small animal practitioners
  • Train such veterinarians to recognize, diagnose and treat the most common problems encountered in small animal practice.
  • Train veterinarians to recognize the limits of general practice and to interact optimally with the discipline oriented specialists.
  • Train participants in problem solving skills
  • Promote continuous lifelong professional development in the field of small animal veterinary medicine

Inhalt

The program consists of two parts, course work and clinical work.

This structure allows the candidates to study from their practice. The formal instruction is part-time in the form of courses taken at intervals during the program (course work).

It is expected that students gradually apply the skills they acquire in the formal part of their education to their daily work in practice. To support this process, participants are required to compile a case log of 100 cases and to write 3 case reports (clinical work).

Behandelt Punkten

  • Course work
    • Participants are required to accumulate a minimum of 240 hours of coursework (CPD). Credit points can be acquired by attending the courses held by the ESAVS of the University of Luxembourg and passing examinations in the respective disciplines. ESAVS courses are scheduled to take place in Luxembourg and other European locations. They typically consist of one week (5 days) or two weeks (10 days) of residential training (40 – 90 hours) with distance learning contacts between consecutive courses.
  • Clinical Work
    • Case log
      • In the course of the program, the candidates are required to accumulate 100 well documented cases in the form of a case log.
    • Case reports
      • 3 cases are selected by the candidate for written in depth case reports. These must include one internal medicine case, one surgical/orthopaedic case and one case of free choice.
