Training formats

Several training formats are used for the co-funding application.

External training

Delivered by a training provider within the company or in external premises 

Types of providers:

  • Training body = training provider with a ministerial authorisation to manage a training body.

  • Supplier-trainer = a company which is a supplier of materials or services, that delivers training related to these materials or services. As its core business is not training, it is exempt from the ministerial authorisation.

  • Trainer from the parent company = trainer considered as an external trainer as he/she is not an employee of the company.

Structured internal training

Delivered by an employee of the company who is an occasional trainer, on a specific date and for a specified length of time, either within the company or in external premises

It involves all or some of the company's staff with a minimum of 2 participants.

Example: the workshop supervisor explains new security legislation to his or her team.

Internal training "On-the-job training"

This training is specific to the workstation. It is delivered by an employee at different times, and involves 1 trainer and 1 participant at the same time.

Example: 2hrs of training one day, 3hrs another, at the participant's or trainer's desk/work area


To cover those targeted by this training format, there are 3 types of "On-the-job" internal training: 

  • "Skills update" on-the-job training: covers the full training course for a person to maintain his or her ability to continue in his/her job.

  • "New hires" on-the-job training: covers the full training course for the integration of a new recruit.

  • "Internal transfers" on-the-job training: covers the full training course for a member of staff transferred to a new department.

For each training type, the attendance list must specify all of the training topics covered each day.

The maximum qualifying lengths of training courses for "on-the-job training" are set at 80hrs for the trainee and 40hrs for the internal trainer(s).

Example: For a new recruit on-the-job training of 60hrs, a maximum of 30hrs can be claimed for the trainer.

Co-funding of on-the-job training is exclusively reserved for unqualified employees and for employees whose formal qualifications bear no relation to their work.


E-learning

E-learning constitutes a learning method which uses information and communication technologies and can be applied to various training themes.
